My philosophy to teaching art is based around the importance of feeling safe, accepted, acknowledged and celebrated — that making art and enjoying the art of other people and cultures are vital elements in the development of the whole child.

Creating at a young age is a multi-sensory, multi-emotional experience. Developing control over the materials they use and the decisions they make is key to independent thinking and self esteem.
I teach that art is an expression of who you are, how you feel and how you see yourself in the world as an individual.

My goal is to teach children to experience their world through exploring the fundamental elements of art — line, shape, texture, color, value, balance, and form, in age appropriate ways, using age appropriate mediums. Engaging in creative projects that explore these elements using their bodies, their senses, their hearts and their developing minds.

Much of the materials we used are found in nature, and the activities will have to do with working with nature in a partnership — respecting the earth and celebrating what it gives us. Cultural diversity, customs and rituals will be a central theme, and projects and activities will focus around these themes.
